Blog mappings determine which WordPress categories sync to which Shopify blogs. This is essential for organizing your content correctly.
Understanding Mappings
How It Works
When a WordPress post is published:
- Wash checks the post's categories
- Finds matching blog mappings
- Syncs the post to the configured Shopify blog(s)
One-to-Many Mapping
A single WordPress category can map to multiple Shopify blogs. This is useful for:
- Publishing to multiple language versions
- Cross-posting to different blog sections
Creating Mappings
Basic Mapping
- In Shopify, go to Wash → Blog Mappings
- Click Add Mapping
- Select a WordPress category from the dropdown
- Select the target Shopify blog
- Click Save
Multilingual Mapping
For stores using Shopify Markets or translation apps:
- Create separate Shopify blogs for each language (e.g., "Blog EN", "Blog DE")
- Create WordPress categories for each language
- Map each language category to its corresponding blog
Shopify Translations API
Wash supports Shopify's Translations API for true multilingual content:
How It Works
- Primary content syncs to the default blog
- Translations sync as localized versions
- Shopify displays the correct language based on customer locale
Setting Up Translations
- Enable Shopify Markets in your store settings
- Configure languages in Shopify
- In Wash, enable Use Translations API
- Map WordPress language categories to Shopify locales
Advanced Options
Sync Tags
Optionally sync WordPress tags as Shopify article tags:
- Enable Sync Tags in mapping settings
- Tags are synchronized automatically
Author Mapping
Configure how WordPress authors appear in Shopify:
- Use Shopify author — Assigns to a Shopify staff member
- Store in metafield — Preserves WordPress author in article metafield
Featured Image
Control featured image behavior:
- Sync featured image — Uploads and sets as article image
- Skip — Don't sync featured images
Managing Mappings
Editing Mappings
- Click the mapping you want to edit
- Modify the settings
- Click Save
Deleting Mappings
- Click the trash icon next to the mapping
- Confirm deletion
Note: Deleting a mapping doesn't delete synced content. It only stops future syncs for that category.
Best Practices
- Keep mappings simple — one category per blog when possible
- Use descriptive category names
- Test mappings with draft posts first
- Document your mapping strategy for your team
Troubleshooting
Posts Not Syncing
- Verify the post has a mapped category assigned
- Check the post status is "Published"
- Review the sync log for errors
Wrong Blog Target
- Check your mapping configuration
- Verify the post's categories in WordPress
- Remember: posts with multiple categories sync to all mapped blogs
